A driven entrepreneur and a talented young jewelry designer whose brand is making an impact on both sides of the U.S. and Mexico border, Jimena María Ramón, Founder of JMR Mexico, is a rarity in that her passion for positively impacting the world around her is as much a driving force in her daily work as is the creation of her latest products. Artisanally crafted on a picturesque ranch in Acuna, Coahuila Mexico, Ramon’s timeless designs with a modern twist have garnered her international exposure, as her pieces have been worn in the spotlight by women on the Oscars red carpet, on the NFL sidelines, and by so many others in between.

On her journey to entrepreneurship:

I have been dreaming up jewelry designs for as long as I can remember. I would sketch pieces and take them to a local jewelry workshop in my hometown so that I could watch my designs be brought to life. It wasn’t until my junior year at St. Edward’s University in Austin that I brought them to life myself, and that was when JMR Mexico was born.

Because I was raised in an entrepreneurial family, I had no reservations about turning my hobby into a business. I set up a tiny workshop in my apartment and started creating and selling pieces. Years later, halfway through my Master’s Degree at University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, I started to learn how to work with metal. The rest was history, and now…here we are.

On the JMR difference:

At JMR Mexico, each and every one of our pieces tells a story. We work to ensure that everything we make has a purpose, whether it is the name of the piece that bears significance, or the aesthetic. Because most of our designs are minimalist, we take pride in using the different elements we see at the ranch to create everyday pieces influenced by our lives here. Our sketches are inspired by the little things about ranch life, like the horse stables and the stones in the pavement, among other subtleties we observe. We strive to create classic pieces with a modern twist, which makes our pieces timeless.

On giving back:

Growing up in a family that was heavily involved in the Mexican national equestrian sport of “charreria”, it was somewhat inevitable that I developed a passion for horseback riding. It serves as my main source of daily energy that fuels my creative inspiration. I have seen firsthand the benefits of equine therapy, and I am currently considering founding a therapy program on our ranch for children with Autism. We will have a variety of services for children with a diverse spectrum of needs.

On her personal female hero:

Although there are many women in history and in my personal life that I admire, without a doubt the woman I most admire and the one I consider to be my personal hero is my mother. I would not be the woman I am today without her unconditional encouragement and leading example of persistence and drive. Every time I have fallen down in life, she has been there to lift me up and teach me how each setback has made me stronger. I am so lucky to have her in my life.
